WHY THERE IS NO QUOTATIONA contemporary confession rather than a person, filed as a document alongside Westminster and the 1689 for the same reason: it states what it states, and no individual has to be credited with holding it. Ten of eighteen positions are quoted from it. Eight are blank, and the blanks are not evenly boring: election is absent from a confession whose doctrine of sin is thoroughly Reformed, and the eschatological sequence runs from Christ's return to the new earth without mentioning a millennium. He founded the church and leads it, which makes the confession close to him and not the same as him; a pass on Martin himself would have to come from his own preaching.
