THE POSITION
The Hebrew Bible assumes a real, hierarchical divine council of created spiritual beings under Yahweh, who were allotted the nations at Babel. His central lexical claim is that elohim is not a term of nature or attributes at all but of domain — it says where a being properly belongs, not what it is. That lets him affirm many elohim and one Yahweh without contradiction, since Yahweh is 'species unique' among the beings who share that address.
