A church should practice the two ordinances of believers' baptism and the Lord's Supper (Acts 2:38-42) as well as church discipline (Matthew 18:15-20). Any church that does not have these three disciplines is not a true biblical church.
THE POSITION
Believers' baptism, named as one of two ordinances a church should practise alongside the Lord's Supper and church discipline. He makes the three a test of ecclesial validity rather than a matter of preference — a church lacking them is not a true biblical church.
38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise belongs to you and your children and to all who are far off—to all whom the Lord our God will call to Himself.” 40 With many other words he testified, and he urged them, “Be saved from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who embraced his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to the believers that day. 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
