Second London Baptist Confession on Extent of the atonement
Definite — for the elect, effectually
The Lord Jesus by his perfect obedience and sacrifice of himself, which he through the Eternal Spirit once offered up unto God, hath fully satisfied the Justice of God, procured reconciliation, and purchased an Everlasting inheritance in the Kingdom of Heaven, for all those whom the Father hath given unto him.
THE POSITION
Chapter 8.5 states the purchase as made for those the Father gave the Son, and 8.8 makes the application co-extensive with it: to all for whom Christ obtained redemption he certainly and effectually applies it. Chapter 3.6 says the same from the decretal side — 'neither are any other redeemed by Christ, or effectually called, justified, adopted, sanctified, and saved, but the Elect only.' Chapter 30.2 calls Christ 'the alone propitiation for all the sins of the Elect.'
2 For You granted Him authority over all people, so that He may give eternal life to all those You have given Him.

ABOUT THIS FIGURE
The confessional standard of the Particular Baptists, first printed 1677 and adopted by the London General Assembly of 1689. It takes over the Westminster Confession chapter by chapter and rewrites it at four points that matter: the covenant (ch. 7), the gospel and the extent of its grace (ch. 20, which Westminster has no counterpart to), the church (ch. 26), and baptism (ch. 29). This entry rests on the 1677/1689 printing with its own Scripture proofs, read against the Westminster text clause by clause.
