STANCE

At regeneration, which precedes and causes faith

One receives the baptism of the Holy Spirit at conversion. When the Holy Spirit regenerates the lost person, He baptizes him into the Body of Christ.

THE POSITION

Spirit baptism happens at conversion and is identical with being placed into the Body of Christ at regeneration. He presses the point that it is positional rather than experiential — a fact, not a feeling — and notes that Scripture never commands anyone to be baptised in the Spirit, only to be filled. Filling he then reads as the Spirit as agent rather than content, with the content being the word of Christ.

SCRIPTURE
1 CORINTHIANS 12:12-13 · BSB

12 The body is a unit, though it is composed of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.
